a lovely little trip

A trip to Chicago might not seem like a dreamy destination right now but it was exactly what I needed!  Thanks to the help of Grandma Rose, Cindy and Joel I was able to leave for Chicago on Thursday.  My mom came and took care of Aria on Friday, Saturday and Sunday while Joel went to work and to a cabin for the weekend.  THANK YOU BABA!!! I spent Thursday and Friday with my dad and his crew.  We spent our time shuttling kiddos to school, sports practices or games, doing homework, playing barbies, listening to flute practice, having dance parties and reading books.

After we dropped all three girls off at school on Friday my dad and I snuck away for breakfast at the delicious Pancake House. I love the banana pancakes!

Friday night my dad and I watched Jasmine's indoor soccer game.  Afterwards we dropped Jasmine off to go to bed and took Marchele out for ice cream at Margie's Candies.

Liesl lives near Margie's so she met us there for ice cream.  If you have never had the ice cream there you need to go and get yourself a turtle sundae as soon as possible.

It's so delicious I never manage to get a "before" picture!

After ice cream I said goodbye to my family to begin the "girl's weekend" portion of my trip.  Liesl is due with her first baby in March so we decided to get together for some much needed girl time and to do a little nesting as well!

Saturday morning we spent time sewing a couple changing pad covers for Liesl's nursery.  I also turned a pair of Brett's college football sweatpants into a cozy little blanket for their little boy.

I forgot to take a picture of the other cover we made but here is one we made using a remnant of her bedroom curtains from Ikea.  It was a super easy project and it makes me want to make some for Aria's room.

Saturday night we went to Chilam Bilam for dinner.  We went there during our girls weekend of 2012 and I have been dreaming of it ever since.  Prepare yourself for pictures of everything we ate.... I want to remember every bite and hope to relive the experience again soon!

Chips and Guacamole for starters.

Young greens salad with roasted pablono peppers, jicama, oranges, avocado and candied pumpkin seeds.  YUM

Corn masa memelas, black beans, aged goat cheese, arbol salsa and dressed shoots.  SO GOOD

Flautas stuffed with chicken thigh and rajas, chipotle sauce, pickled cabbage, carrots and crema.

After dinner we walked to her favorite ice cream shop and picked up a pint of cookies and cream ice cream which we ate later while we snuggled up to watch a chick flick but ended up talking all night instead.

Sunday morning I cook Brett and Liesl breakfast and they gracefully let me take a picture :)

After breakfast we did an impressive amount of shopping before I had to be dropped off at the L to head to the airport.  We went to target and got everything else they needed to be ready for their baby to arrive.  Then we went to Paper Source where I bought myself a few gifts and to Francesca's where I scored big getting 5 shirts, a cardigan, a sweater, black skinny jeans, earrings and a bracelet for a ridiculous price because everything was on sale!

Start to finish this trip was a huge success.  I couldn't possibly choose a favorite part because it was all so brilliant.  It was a weekend filled with people, activities and food I love.  The food was delicious, obviously based on all of the pictures I took above, but I seriously love these people and truly hope I get to see them all again soon!  Thank you to everyone that played a part in making me such a happy girl!
