This weekend we decided to have party to celebrate Joel's 28th birthday and to reveal the gender of our baby. We invited friends to join us at Pinz for bowling, games, laser tag and a cake that would be blue or pink inside to tell us if it was a boy or a girl. We had our ultrasound on Friday morning. The baby is growing right on schedule and has all of the proper organs and digits. My favorite part of the ultrasound was seeing it move on the screen and being able to feel it move at the same time. It keeps bumping me with it's butt and kicking me with it's feet! Joel liked seeing it giving a thumbs up. We also saw it open it's mouth and start sucking it's thumb.
We had to look away during parts of the ultrasound because we didn't want to find out if it was a boy or a girl. We had Koua, the ultrasound technician, write the gender down on a card and seal it in an envelope. After the appointment we brought the card over to our friend Erica. She was in charge of baking the cake and keeping the secret.
On Saturday we met friends at Pinz. People cast their votes about whether they thought we would need hair bows or bow ties for baby Stewart. I said that I thought it was a boy because all of my students have been guessing that. I had no sense either way and was excited about both. I had a little more peace about it being a girl because we have a bunch of girl names picked out that we like and one that we are pretty sure will be the one. We have one boy name on the maybe list but that is all.
When Erica text that she was on her way to the party with the cake I got super nervous! I could hardly wait to find out if it was a boy or a girl! Joel had to cut the cake because I was too nervous. We cut in and saw that it was pink! It is a girl!!! We are super excited.
Now that I know the baby is a girl I am ready to start decorating the nursery. It is time to start getting ready for the baby to join us!
It was really fun to be able to celebrate Joel and the baby with friends and family. My mom and step-dad were able to come too! It was really special to me that they drove from Wisconsin to be with us. Thank you to everyone that was able to come!
Happy birthday Joel, I am so glad you were born and I am excited to begin this new phase of life with you!
